A court in Cairo on May 16 th issued a preliminary death sentence of ex-President Mursi. Cairo Criminal Court on June 16 confirmed the verdict on two charges: spying for foreign intelligence and escape from prison during the riots in 2011.
In the case of escape from prison «Wadi al-Natrun» former Egyptian leader was sentenced to death by hanging. However, Mursi death sentence were also leaders of «Muslim Brotherhood» Mohammed Badia, Muhammad Saad al-Katatni and Isam al-Araya. Other leaders of the movement, including Mohamed al-Beltagy and Safwat Higyazi, sentenced to life imprisonment.
On the second charge — espionage on behalf of foreign intelligence services — Mursi received a life sentence. In this case, sentenced to be hanged the leaders of «Muslim Brotherhood» — Khairat Al-Shatyr, Mohamed al-Beltagy and Ahmed Abdel Aty.
The International congress on protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens «Shield»speak against the use of the death penalty in principle, for humanitarian reasons, as well as against the use of punishment in relation to Muhammad Mursi due to the danger of escalating the situation in this already volatile region.
