International organization “Shield” calls on the Verkhovna Rada not to adopt bill No. 5715

Recently, human rights defenders of our organization learned that on January 25, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered bill No. 5715 on the transfer of the Ukrainian Embassy from Tel Aviv to the city of Jerusalem. The corresponding statement was submitted by the People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation Oleksandr Feldman.

The International Congress for the Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens “Shield” calls for abandoning this decision and not adopting bill No. 5715. The transfer of the Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will de facto mean recognition of the disputed city as the capital of Israel. This step will have disastrous consequences for the peace process, for the idea of ??the coexistence of two states, and for the stability and security of the entire region.

For quite a long time, an anti-terrorist operation has been carried out in Ukraine against the aggressor country. Like no one else, Ukrainians should understand that it is essential to create an atmosphere in the region for a peaceful settlement of the dispute between the two sides, far from any complications.

Ukraine has never been an aggressor country. We must contribute to the peaceful resolution of issues regarding the settlement of relations between Israel and Palestine and not give impetus to the escalation of the conflict.
